Fear-Free Nail Trims, the Cooperative Care Way — At Your Home
If you've already started down the fear-free, force-free path with your dog, you know the problem: forcing a nail trim — pinning your dog down, muzzling them through it, or watching a groomer restrain them — undoes the trust you've worked so hard to build.
There's a better way. With cooperative care, your dog learns to "opt in" to the nail trim process — and to "opt out" if they need a break. We honor that choice. It's what empowers dogs to be active, willing participants in their own care, instead of something being done to them.
No matter what your dog's history with nail trims looks like — panic, growling, a full-body flee response — that history doesn't have to be their future.
How It Works
All appointments take place in the comfort of your home!
PHASE ONE: Meet & Greet
45-minutes @ $100.00
When you first sign up, we'll schedule a Meet & Greet to get to know you and your dog. Then, we'll develop a customized training plan to get your dog comfortable with the cooperative care process.
PHASE TWO: Train & Trim
45-minutes @ $185.00
Let the training begin! Training sessions teach your dog the cooperative care process, change how they feel about participating in nail trims, and build a solid working relationship with us. Training sessions include as much nail trimming as that stage of training allows.
Every dog starts with the scratch board and will be using the scratch board by the end of our first session. We will introduce the clippers and/or dremel as time goes on.
PHASE THREE: Trusted Trim
30-minutes @ $50.00
Once your dog has learned the cooperative care process, we can simply move on maintenance trims, which are short 15-30 minute appointments just to trim your dog's nails. We recommend scheduling maintenance trims at least every 4 weeks.

What is cooperative care?
Cooperative care means your dog learns to actively participate in their own care — nail trims included — rather than being restrained through it. It comes from techniques originally developed for zoo animals, adapted for dogs. Your dog learns they can "opt in" and "opt out," and we honor that choice throughout.
Why shouldn't I just have my dog held down for nail trims?
Forcing a nail trim can work in the short term, but it teaches your dog that struggling and fear are the only options they have — which often makes each trim worse than the last, and can spill over into fear or reactivity around handling in general. Cooperative care builds trust instead of eroding it, so nail trims (and handling in general) get easier over time, not harder.
My dog is really scared, reactive, or has never tolerated a nail trim — can you still help?
Yes — this approach is specifically designed for dogs with a difficult history around nail trims, handling, or grooming. We start wherever your dog is at.
How is this different from a mobile groomer?
A mobile groomer typically still uses some form of restraint to get the trim done quickly. Our approach is training-first: we take the time your dog needs to feel safe with the process, which may mean fewer nails get trimmed in early sessions — but it builds toward trims your dog can actually tolerate long-term, not just get through once.
